Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) Process

e-Wallets

Login to your e-Wallet account is protected through the use of a password and the generation of a One Time Password which can either be conducted through the Google Authenticator application or alternatively can be generated at our end and sent via SMS.

Cards

Our card authentication is currently working on the generation of a one-time password model which is sent to your phone through SMS. However, this process is changing, and we are soon migrating onto the Paymix Authenticator App.

Minimising Disruption to Consumers

We are changing the way we authenticate transactions to further reduce fraud.
We are currently undergoing a transformation and will be soon migrating the current way how you login and approve transactions to a seamless and user friendly journey removing the dependence on Mobile service providers to deliver the One Time password through SMS.
With our new Paymix Authenticator App, you’ll no longer need to wait for the SMS containing the one-time password, you’ll be able to approve transactions directly using the biometric options available on your mobile phone.

Why are we changing?

These requirements are being introduced to provide a safer user experience and reduce fraud.

What does Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) mean?

The definition within PSD2 (European Union Payment Services Directive 2) classifies strong customer authentication (SCA) meaning as an authentication based on the use of two or more elements categorised as:
    • knowledge (something only the user knows), eg a secret code or a memorable question
    • possession (something only the user possesses) eg card, token
    • inherence (something the user is) eg a fingerprint

These need to be independent, meaning that the breach of one does not compromise the reliability of the others and is designed in such a way as to protect the confidentiality of the authentication data.
SCA has been introduced to help reduce fraud. With increasing amounts of purchases being made online, these processes will provide the extra protection necessary to ensure that customers are safe when purchasing online and their money is better protected.
